Sorry, I have to pick the newer W211.

For me it's the closest car curenntly on sale that really close to a private jet.

300D + a 5.6l from a W126. Not a fan of Diesel, but a big fan of old Mercs.

300d for sure. MB was much better before the mid-90s.

Other than some small quibbles (damnable lane departure warning system, Yes, lets vibrate the fucking steering wheel, BRILLIANT!) I love driving them. Quite comfortable for a car.

300D...because it's a Mercedes that was built to a standard and not to a price point.

Probably the best color combination ever. What's it like, how long have you had it?

This one I think at least two years. It had 90k miles on it so I bought it when I was in California. I did the EGR delete the first week I had it, all new A/C. I have it in Japan with me now. The blue interiors tend to crack, not many are still in good shape, black probably as well. The Palomino MB Tex is damn near indestructible, mine was garaged the whole time, its an 83, the last year with no computer. I would like an 84/85 rear end as it is geared better, but the last year you want overall is an 83. Well I have had a few Mercs over the years, I have an old fintail right now as well, but its petrol and all stock. They drive a bit like a truck with the diesel, solid, they always feel bigger than they are, they aren't really big but it makes you think so even on the outside. Its a unique experience, well tuned they aren't too slow but they do have certain ranges that they just don't get up and go without the turbo kicking in. Mine has the pump tuned and new injectors ect. so its the quickest I've driven, but thats just to keep up with modern pace in traffic, the cruising is the experience, they are great out on a free and clear road building up lots of momentum and torque. I always said they sort of gather speed haha. I do love them, I love my 911 as well for different reasons but its nice to have the D to cruise around in.

Now I'm jealous with you.

I mean, I'm still driving the W140 S600. But still, I do love my Ayamobile!

Simply because the car was so simple to use. No COMAND, No Air Suspension, No TV, even mine got no DVD.

I wish mercedes made a W221 kit for W140 :D

I'd take the 300d, so my 240d has someone to play with.

Guys, I get the whole "old diesel benz" thing. I really do. They're cool and kind of quirky. But this comparison is a little silly. The last time I drove one, it was painfully slow and noisy. I'd have to say the S550 by a mile if I could only have one.
